Chester County, Pennsylvania Death and Marriage Records 1858-1861

$25.00

Voluntary recording of Pennsylvania marriages was abandoned in 1854 thus this book will help fill the gap between census records for marriages and deaths. Beverley abstracted all weddings that often contain the father of the bride as well as residences of both the bride and groom. There are death notices, obituaries, registers, auditors and estate notices.

Also included is the cause of and place of death, age, any relatives listed, the administrator or executor of an estate and guardians of minor children. This book contains listings from surrounding counties of Delaware, Montgomery, Berks and Lancaster as well as even more distant counties. The southern perimeters of Chester County abuts on the Delaware-Maryland border; therefore you will also find listings of people from these areas.

Chronological listings of newspaper abstracts for the period January 1858 through December 1861 from the Chester County Republican that later became the American Republican and Chester County Democrat which was published weekly. During 1860 through December 1861 the abstracts are from The Jeffersonian, also published in West Chester. On 23 August 1861, publication was halted by the U.S. Marshal, accusing the paper of being strongly pro-southern. Beverley substituted two months of the American Republican and Chester County Democrat until The Jeffersonian was permitted to resume publishing. Every name index.
