Death certificates are important tolls for researchers, but they were not available in the counties of Maryland until 1898 (Baltimore City in 1875). An earlier attempt by the government to require the issuance of death certificates in 1865 was only partially successful and unfortunately the law was not enforced.
Researchers, therefore, must rely on other extant records. This book compiled information from: death certificated May 1898 through December 1899, Death Register, 1865-1870, family bible records, mortality schedules in 1850, 1860, 1870 and 18880 and assorted murder cases, 1849-1899. Death records not included in this book are obituaries and death notices, church records and tombstone inscriptions.
