Northampton County, Virginia Land Tax Records 1900, 1905 and 1910

This is the sixth volume in a series of land tax records, which offer a wealth of valuable genealogical data presented in a convenient table format with entries listed alphabetically by surname within each section. This volume covers the years 1900, 1905, and 1910. Totals for County and District Levies are supplied. Explanations for alterations in the record are noted at the bottom of each page. This volume includes comprehensive indexes of landowners and of named properties. Numerous facsimile reprints enhance the text.

The column heading for 1900 Land Tax “County” tables include: Name of person who by himself or by his tenant has the freehold in possession of the land and Residence of the owner of the tract of land, Nature of the owner’s estate whether held in fee or for life, Number of acres in each tract, Name of the tract and description of the land, Distance and bearing from the Courthouse, Value of land per acre including buildings, Value of land exclusive of buildings, Value of buildings, Total value of the land and buildings, Total Tax (Land and Buildings. @ 30 & 10 cts. added for this total), Amount of Tax Levied for County purposes – 20%, Road Tax – 5%, and Total levy for County and District free school purposes.

The column heading for 1900 Land Tax “Town” tables are the same for Name of person in possession of the land and nature of the estate. Headings also include the number of the lot, Value of the Lot, Value of Buildings and Value of Lot and Buildings. Eastville Town additionally has a Levy for county and district free schools.

The column heading for 1905 and 1910 Land Tax “County” tables include: Name of person who by himself or by his tenant has the freehold in possession of the land and Residence of the owner of the tract of land; Nature of the owner’s estate whether held in Fee, Wife, Grant or Trust; Name of the tract and description of the land; Distance and bearing from the Courthouse; Value of land per acre including buildings; Value of land exclusive of buildings; Value of buildings; Total value of the land and buildings; Total Tax (total of three previous columns); Total County Levies (total for two previous columns), Road Levies; and School Levies. The table headings for 1910 include Total District Levies and Total County and District Levies instead of Road Levies and School Levies.
