Victoria County, Texas Marriage Records 1838-1890

$16.00

Victoria County, Texas was created in 1832 from the Old Mexican Municipality. The area dates back to the ship wrecked Cabeza de Vaca in 1530. In 1824 Martin de Leon petitioned to establish a colony. This was called Nuestra Senora de Gaudalupe de Jesus, but when the petition was returned it was called officially “Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe de Jesus y Victoria.” In 1835, the name was officially shortened to “Victoria” and a county established.

These marriage records are probably the earliest that have survived. They are recorded chronologically by date with the name of the groom and bride given with each date.
