CD: Some of the First Settlers of "The Forks of the Delaware" and Their Descendants: Being a Translation from the German of the Record Books of the First Reformed Church of Easton, Pennsylvania, from 1760-1852 - Rev. Henry Martyn Kieffer, D.D. Here is a splendid record of German families in this pre-Revolutionary settlement. In its very early days, Easton was an important site for Indian trading and treaty negotiations. The first 75 pages of the book give an interesting narrative history, discussing the significance of the of the location of “The Forks of the Delaware,” the first German settlers, the old church record books, the Indian treaty which was signed in the church, and more. Illustrations of the interior and exterior of the church, facsimile pages of the record books and other historical documents, and portraits of the pastors enhance this volume. The records are presented as they appear in the original books; chronologically arranged and categorized into baptisms, deaths and burials, and marriages. The author inserted notations and comments within the actual records to indicate when a new pastor took over the record-keeping duties. This helps to account for the variations in name spellings and the difficulty of reading some of the handwritten entires. This edition is updated with the addition of a new surname index. “For genealogical purposes it is believed that this publication will prove of great value to many people. On a moderate estimate there are nearly, or quite, 20,000 names recorded in this book. The descendants of the people for whom these names stand, though scattered far and wide, will find material for their family history which is simply invaluable.” (1902), 2005, CD, Graphic Images, Adobe Acrobat, PC and Mac,.
